Dr Jerome Sarris
Jerome is Senior Research Fellow at The University of Melbourne and a founding Vice Chair of The International Network of Integrative Mental Health. Jerome moved from clinical practice to academic work and completed his doctorate at The University of Queensland in the field of psychiatry.
He completed his postdoctoral training at The University of Melbourne, Department of Psychiatry; The Centre for Human Psychopharmacology; and Harvard Medical School (Massachusetts General Hospital). Jerome has a particular interest in mood and anxiety disorder research pertaining to Complementary and Integrative Medicine and in nutraceutical sychopharmacology. He is co-editor of Clinical Naturopathy: an evidence-based guide to practice and has over 80 publications.
Dr James Lake
James is a Board certified psychiatrist in private practice in Monterey, California and is a founding member and chair of the International Network of Integrative Mental Health. He has chaired symposia and workshops at American Psychiatric Association meetings and other national and international conferences on non-conventional and integrative mental health care.
Dr. Lake has served as a clinical assistant professor in the department of psychiatry and behavioral medicine at Stanford and is currently a visiting assistant professor of medicine at University of Arizona School of Medicine, Center for Integrative Medicine. He founded and chaired the American Psychiatric Association’s Caucus on Complementary, Alternative and Integrative Mental Health Care from 2004 through 2010 and was appointed to a special American Psychiatric Association Task Force on CAM and integrative medicine.
He is currently co-chair of the working group on integrative mental health in the Consortium on Academic Healthcare Centers in Integrative Medicine. Dr. Lake has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and chapters on integrative medicine and psychiatry. He contributes a regular column on integrative mental health care to Psychiatric Times, and serves on the editorial review boards of; Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, Journal of the Association for Advances in Philosophy, Psychiatry and Psychology and the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. Dr. Lake is also the author or editor of four textbooks on non-conventional mental health care: Chinese Medical Psychiatry: A Clinical Manual, (with Bob Flaws), Blue Poppy Press, 2000, Textbook of Integrative Mental Health Care, Thieme, 2006, Complementary and Alternative Treatments in Mental Health Care (co-edited with David Spiegel), American Psychiatric Press, 2007 and Integrative Mental Health Care: A Therapist’s Handbook, Norton, 2009.
Dr Henry Emmons
Dr Emmons is a psychiatrist who integrates mind-body and natural therapies, mindfulness teachings, and compassion and insight into his clinical work.
Henry developed the Resilience Training Program, an integrative program proven to be helpful for depression. He practices with Partners in Resilience, where they offer Pathways to Joy, a program that integrates the best of movement, nutrition, natural therapies and the psychology of mindfulness to help restore resilience and rediscover joy.
Henry is the author of three books; The Chemistry of Joy, The Chemistry of Calm and The Chemistry of Joy Workbook. He is currently working on a book using new neuroscience discoveries to promote healthy aging.
Dr. Scott Shannon MD, ABIHM
Dr Scott has been involved in holistic medicine since he joined the American Holistic Medical Association in 1978. Scott has been instrumental in the creation of a holistic and integrative perspective in psychiatry for almost two decades. He published the first textbook for this field in 2001. Scott is a past president of the AHMA and the immediate past President of the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine.
Scott also teaches as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado-Children’s Hospital in Denver. In 2010, he founded the country’s largest and most comprehensive integrative mental health clinic, Wholeness Center in Fort Collins. Norton published his latest textbook, Mental Health for the Whole Child in 2013.
Dr Hyla Cass
Hyla is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine. She is an innovator and expert in the fields of integrative medicine, psychiatry and addiction recovery. Dr. Cass helps individuals to withdraw from both psychiatric medication and substances of abuse with the aid of natural supplements.
She has appeared on national radio and television including The Dr. Oz Show, E! Entertainment and The View. She has been quoted in many national magazines, blogs for the Huffington Post, and is the author of several best-selling books including; Natural Highs, 8 Weeks to Vibrant Health, Supplement your Prescription, What Your Doctor Doesn’t Know About Nutrition and her ebook, The Addicted Brain and How to Break Free.
Dr Cass is member of the Medical Advisory Board of the Health Sciences Institute and is also Associate Editor of Total Health Magazine. She has served on the boards of California Citizens for Health and the American College for Advancement in Medicine.
Dr Ronald Glick
Dr Glick is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and is also the Medical Director of the Centre for Integrative Medicine there. He is a founding board member of the International Network of Integrative Mental Health and currently serves as Chair.
His practice centres around the integrative management of pain and mental health conditions. Dr Glick is involved in medical student and resident education at the University of Pittsburgh. He also has been involved in federally funded research on integrative approaches to the management of pain conditions as well as insomnia.
Dr. Judith Pentz
Dr Pentz is a board certified psychiatrist and has been in practice for 20 years. She has an integrative/holistic private practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her interests include individual therapy with a spiritual, in depth focus, the role of nutrition and nutriceuticals as option/additions to psychotropic medication. Assisting therapists, physicians and others in health care fields to explore finding their own heart-focused approach in their work is an important interest.
Her current research interest is to focus on a mindfulness meditation based project with teens having metabolic syndrome. Her current work at UNM is assisting in the expansion of the Telehealth program with the Native Americans in the first ever agreement with Indian Health Service and a university.
Dr Chanel Helgason
Chanel is board certified in Psychiatry and Integrative-Holistic Medicine. She is also certified in Mind-Body Medicine, is a graduate of the University of Arizona Centre for Integrative Medicine’s fellowship program, and currently serves on the faculty of Saybrook University’s School of Mind-Body Medicine.
Dr Helgason founded SynerGenius to share the extensive scientific evidence for approaches that support individuals in creating fulfilling, happy lives. She is the author of The 7 Foundations of Health and Happiness: Building a Bridge to Balance and several published peer-reviewed articles, including “Mind-Body Medicine for Schizophrenia and Psychotic Disorders: A Review of the Evidence”.
The International Network of Integrative Mental Health (INIMH) is a global organisation to advance an integrative whole person approach to mental health through education, research, networking and advocacy. INIMH is closely affiliated with the American Psychiatric Association Caucus on Integrative Medicine.
INIMH was created to support the transformation of mental health care into a more holistic, more effective, more compassionate, and more cost-effective paradigm. Together, INIMH psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and CAM providers work collaboratively to respond to the need for an expanded model of mental health care to include the growing evidence for non-pharmacological and integrative approaches in the prevention and treatment of mental health problems.
